A Magnetic Levitating Torus Rotor
Within A Non Magnetic Metal Torus
Rotor Number 3 Construction Details
Completed Rotor. Weighs about 2.5 Kg. Built on same bicycle rim as Rotor 1. Two layers of alum around
outer edge to hopefully add some resistance to centrifugal force.
15mm radial field magnets in their holders. Spacer magnets are 12 mm dia. should have been 15mm to match main magnets. Perhaps could have been 18mm.
Average distance between poles about 26mm.
Bought these as 10mm. Easy to get out of control when
working out what sizes may fit around a rotor.
A forming tool to turn over one end of magnet holder.
A better view of magnet holder.
A better view of magnet holder and forming tool.
Using a brass punch to retain the opposing magnets in the holder.
Finished radial field "Supermagnet".
Spare magnets hold the "Supermagnets" in place.
Packer magnets 10mm dia x 2mm  at each end of a "Supermagnet".
Finished radial field "Supermagnet"with packer magnets at each end.
All magnets installed and retained with body filler.
Body filler smoothed and 2 layers of alum sheet 0.6mm formed around rotor.
