The above assembly was used originally to adjust and hold the rotor in position for testing powered rotation. The assembly now uses this as a starting point,with bits grafted on as required. My preferred option would still be to motorize the thread for wheel activation, but I could find nothing suitable at reasonable cost at the time.

Above the wheel shown in the extended position. It moves back about 10mm when the coil is activated.
Yuk. But it does seem to work so far. To date Sep 2013 have tested all aspects individually under micro control, but not the whole as an integrated unit. The rotor weighs about 30Kg, and I would have thought it would tear these assemblies apart as it bounces around. It seems to take very little force for the rotor to try to realign itself, and less as the speed increases. More pics in the locking section.
